Privacy Notice

Effective Date: 20 May 2026

This Privacy Notice applies to information that The Dateline Communications Private Limited, including subsidiaries, affiliates, joint ventures and franchises that you are interacting with (referred to collectively in this Privacy Notice as "Dateline Communications Private Limited", "expressnews.network", "we", "us", "our" and other similar pronouns) collect through our websites and our Express News mobile application (each such website and mobile application, a "Service", and together the "Services").

This Privacy Notice explains the types of information we may collect, how we may use and disclose the information once it is collected, and, where applicable, how you can stop us from collecting, using, disclosing or continuing to hold your information. We want to ensure that in using any of the Services, you understand the terms of this Privacy Notice, including any subsequent changes made as described in Part 12 below, and are aware of the privacy choices available to you. Please note that this Privacy Notice does not apply to information that you may provide to us, or that we may obtain, where a separate Privacy Notice is made available to you or which does not make this Privacy Notice available.

About This Notice: Website vs. App

This Privacy Notice covers two different Services, which collect different information:

  • Our websites (including expressnews.network) — these may collect a broad range of information as described throughout this Notice, including information you provide, cookies, and information used for advertising.
  • The Express News mobile app — the app collects substantially less information. The app has no account or login, and we do not collect your name, email, phone number, or precise location through the app, and the app does not display third-party advertising. Where a section below applies only to one Service, this is indicated. The app-specific summary is set out in Part 11.

1. What Information May Be Collected?

User-Provided Information

During your use of a Service (whether as a registered or unregistered user), you may provide us with personal information, such as your name and email address, or other information that could be used to identify you as an individual or allow someone to contact you, as well as any information associated with such information (collectively, "Personal Information"). Personal Information includes both things that specifically identify you (like your real name) and things that don't specifically identify you, but might be connected back to you (like the IP address of your computer or the device identifier of your smartphone).

App note: The Express News app does not have a registration or login feature and does not request your name, email address, or phone number.

Location Data

When using our Services from a mobile device, you may share the geographic location of your device with us where that Service requests it and you grant permission. If you set your device not to transmit location information, certain features may be limited.

App note: The Express News app does not request precise or background location permissions and does not collect your device location.

Service Usage Information

As is typical of many websites and mobile applications, when you use our Services, we may collect information about your device and your usage of our Services, including:

  • Your IP address (which we may associate with your domain name or that of your Internet access provider or wireless carrier, and your general location);
  • A unique ID number associated with your device;
  • Other unique identifiers such as advertising identifiers (e.g., "ad-ID" or "IDFA");
  • Web browser and operating system information;
  • Language of your device;
  • Wireless connections you are using;
  • Referring page that linked you to us (websites);
  • Your activities, including browsing history;
  • Pages, content, and items you view or click on during your use of our Services, and when and for how long you do so;
  • The next website you visit after leaving our website (websites); and
  • Search terms you enter on our Services or a referral site.

For the app, this usage information is limited to diagnostics and aggregated analytics collected through Google Firebase, as described in Part 11.

2. How Is Your Information Used?

We or our service providers may use the information we collect from or about you to:

  • administer our Services and (where applicable) your account with us;
  • enable you to use our Services and their features;
  • customize and localize content based on your interests, history, or general location;
  • diagnose crashes and technical problems, and improve the stability, performance, and features of our Services;
  • conduct market research and generate analytics reports on usage of our Services;
  • send notifications and communications, including news alerts (in the app) and, on our websites, marketing communications about products, services, or events that may interest you;
  • assess interest in and use of our Services, both individually and in aggregate; and
  • respond to your requests, questions, and concerns, and protect our rights and property.

We may also use Personal Information to meet internal and external audit and information-security requirements. Where permissible under applicable law, your Personal Information may be used for other purposes that will be disclosed to you at the time of collection. We may also use Personal Information to:

(a) respond to requests from courts, law enforcement agencies, regulatory agencies, and other public and government authorities, which may include authorities outside your country of residence; (b) enforce our terms and conditions; and (c) protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property, or those of other persons.

Some uses are necessary for the performance of a contract with you or for providing a service you requested. Others are based on our legitimate interests, such as improving our Services or marketing them to people who have expressed interest.

3. How Do We Share the Information We Collect?

We do not sell your Personal Information. We may share your information:

  • with our lawyers, auditors, and other professional advisors, and with third-party providers of services such as cloud hosting, content delivery, customer relationship management, and analytics, who need the information to provide services to us or on our behalf;
  • with Google Firebase, which provides analytics, crash reporting, and notification services for the app (see Part 11). Google's handling of such data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy;
  • with third-party advertising companies, on our websites only, in connection with advertising (the app does not display third-party advertising);
  • when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or property, your safety or that of others, to investigate fraud, or to respond to a government, law-enforcement, judicial, or other lawful request, or to comply with the law; and
  • in connection with a proposed corporate change or dissolution, including a merger, acquisition, reorganization, consolidation, bankruptcy, liquidation, sale of assets, or wind-down of business.

We may share non-personally identifiable, aggregated, or de-identified information with others for their own use. In addition, what you voluntarily post to public areas of a Service may be available to other users.

Transfers Outside the European Economic Area ("EEA")

This section applies to individuals located in the EEA. To process information for the purposes set out in this Notice, it is sometimes necessary for us to share your personal data outside the EEA, for example with our offices or service providers located outside the EEA, or where necessary for establishing, exercising, or defending legal rights.

Non-EEA countries might not have the same legal framework for data protection as EEA countries. In particular, India, the most common destination of our transfers of Personal Information outside the EEA, is not considered to provide a level of personal-data protection equivalent to that of the EEA. We will, however, ensure transfers comply with applicable EU data protection law, and our standard practice is to use standard data protection contractual clauses approved by the European Commission. You may read more on the European Commission Justice website:

http://ec.europa.eu/justice/data-protection/international-transfers/adequacy/index_en.htm

4. How Do We Secure Your Personal Information?

We use reasonable technical, administrative, and physical security measures to protect Personal Information collected via our Services. We cannot guarantee that any information, during transmission through the Internet or while stored on our systems or otherwise in our care, will be absolutely safe from unauthorized access or use. You use the Services, and send us information, at your own risk.

If you correspond with us by email, text message, or a "Contact Us" feature, a third party could view the information you send in transit. We have no liability relating to disclosure of your information due to errors, omissions, or unauthorized acts or failures to act by third parties during or after transmission.

If you create an account on our websites, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password and for any activity that occurs using your credentials. Please notify us of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any other breach of security.

We have procedures in place to deal with any suspected data-security breach and, where we believe the security of your Personal Information may have been compromised, we will endeavor to notify you promptly and, where legally required, notify the applicable regulator.

5. Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies (Websites)

This section applies to our websites. The Express News mobile app does not use browser cookies; the app's analytics and diagnostics are described in Part 11.

What does "cookie" mean?

Cookies, pixel tags, and similar technologies (collectively "cookies") are files containing small amounts of information that are downloaded to your internet-enabled device when you visit a website. Cookies are then sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognizes that cookie. Cookies perform many useful functions, such as remembering your preferences and improving your online experience.

What purpose do we use cookies for?

We use cookies to make our websites easier to use, to deliver a personalized experience, and to better tailor our products, services, and websites to your interests. Cookies you consent to may also be used to collect personal data which we profile into audiences so that we can deliver tailored advertising and limit the number of times you see an advertisement. We also use cookies to compile anonymous, aggregated statistics about how people use our websites, and to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.

What cookies do we use?

  • Necessary Cookies — essential to make our websites work and enable you to move around and use features. These do not identify you as an individual.
  • Performance Cookies — collect information about how you use our websites (e.g., most-visited pages, time spent, error messages) to help us improve performance. Information is aggregated and anonymous.
  • Functionality Cookies — allow our websites to remember choices you make (such as username, language, or region) to provide a more personalized experience. The information may include personal data you have disclosed.
  • Targeting or Advertising Cookies — used to deliver content and advertising more relevant to you, to limit ad frequency, and to measure campaign effectiveness. Most of these track via Device ID or IP address and may collect personal data.
  • Third-Party Cookies — some partners may set cookies on your device on our behalf (for example, Facebook, Google) to deliver tailored advertising or to provide features such as embedded videos. The information these cookies collect may include personal data, governed by the relevant third party's policy.

6. Links and Connections to Third-Party Services

We maintain a presence on social media and other external platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. This Privacy Notice applies to our use of information you submit to us there, but it does not apply to what those third-party platforms do with your information.

Our Services may contain links, banners, widgets, advertisements, or embedded content (such as YouTube videos) that lead to or are provided by third-party services. We are not responsible for these other services, and their posted privacy policies (not this Privacy Notice) govern the collection and use of your information on them. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of any third-party services you use.

Third-Party Ad Servers and Networks (Websites)

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our websites. When you view an advertisement, the advertiser and related advertising-technology and analytics companies may collect information about you, including information about your visits and the general location indicated by your IP address, in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. These companies may use cookies and similar technologies. Their information practices are governed by their own privacy policies.

For more information about third-party advertisers and how to limit them, visit the Digital Advertising Alliance at http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or the Network Advertising Initiative at http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/.

The Express News mobile app does not display third-party advertising.

7. Do Not Track Disclosures

Some web browsers may transmit "do-not-track" ("DNT") signals. We currently do not change our tracking practices in response to DNT settings. Our third-party partners, such as web-analytics companies and ad networks, may collect information about your online activities over time and across our Services and other properties, and may not honor DNT settings. We utilize Google Analytics for our web analytics, and you can opt out of having your usage data included in Google Analytics by visiting:

https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

8. Your Rights Relating to Your Personal Information

You may review, update, or correct certain Personal Information stored in your account on our websites (if you have one) by using the "Contact Us" information below. We may ask you to verify your identity and provide other details before we can provide, correct, or delete information, subject to our records-retention policies.

You can opt out of our promotional emails by clicking the unsubscribe link in the email. Even if you opt out of promotional correspondence, we may still contact you in connection with your relationship, activities, or communications with us.

In some jurisdictions, including the EEA, you have the right, in certain circumstances, to: (i) require us to delete your Personal Information; (ii) require us to restrict processing of your Personal Information; (iii) receive a copy of the Personal Information you provided in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, and/or instruct us to transmit it to a third party; and (iv) object to our continued processing of your Personal Information for direct marketing (including profiling) or other purposes. You can exercise these rights free of charge by contacting us using the details below.

For the app specifically: you can enable or disable news notifications in your device settings, and you can reset or limit your advertising ID in your device's Google settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads).

9. Data Retention

Your Personal Information will be held for the purposes and uses set out in this Privacy Notice and for as long as there is a legal, taxation, accounting, risk-management, or business requirement to do so. Different retention periods apply to different types of records and data, depending on the nature of your interaction with Dateline Communications Private Limited. App diagnostics and analytics are retained in line with the retention periods of the Google Firebase services we use; recordings you create in the app remain on your device until you delete them.

10. Children's Privacy

The Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If, however, we collect and use information about children, we will comply with industry guidelines and applicable laws. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

11. Express News Mobile App — Summary

This Part summarizes how the Express News Android app handles information. Where it differs from the general website practices above, this Part governs the app.

The app does not require an account and does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or precise location, and it does not display third-party advertising.

The app collects the following automatically, through Google Firebase:

  • Diagnostics and crash data (Firebase Crashlytics) — technical information such as error type, device model, OS version, and the app's state when a crash or error occurs, used to fix problems and improve stability.
  • Usage and analytics data (Firebase Analytics) — general, aggregated information such as which screens are opened, session length, and approximate region.
  • Device and advertising identifiers — collected by Firebase for analytics purposes only; we do not use them to show advertising in the app.
  • Network information — your IP address and connection details may be processed by our content-delivery network and Firebase to deliver the live stream, news content, and notifications.

Push notifications. The app uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to send news alerts (such as breaking-news notifications). Your device is assigned a notification token for this purpose. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

Recordings. The app lets you record the live broadcast. Recordings are saved locally on your own device. We do not upload, access, or store your recordings on our servers. When you choose to share a recording, it is sent using the app or contact you select. Managing and deleting recordings is under your control on your device.

The app does NOT: require login; collect name, email, or phone number; access precise or background location; access your contacts, photos, or personal files (other than saving recordings you create to your device's media storage); or show third-party advertising.

12. Changes to This Privacy Notice

We may change this Privacy Notice from time to time. When we do, we will let you know by posting the changed Privacy Notice on this page with a new "Effective Date". In some cases, we may also tell you about changes by additional means, such as by email or through the app.
